Default .012 is spec

think i saw some where in posts once upon a time that run out spec is .012 seems about .0115 too high to me , but Im pretty sure thats harleys mile wide spec for comp end of shaft, I used to work at a factory making drive shaft parts and a half a thou wasnt even good enough for the spec we had,

Not saying much.. Ride one with .0005 runout and see what you think. But I am happy for both of ya; suggest you keep an eye on the oil pump gerotors and cam plate bushing.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not happy about the runout I have, but I'm also not feeling like I need to yank out the crank and have it worked.

All I was trying to tell the OP was that all is not lost if he comes in at something slightly above .005. I guess it depends on the individuals comfort level.

The spec for warranty purposes was changed from .003" to .012" in 2007 when the crank assemblies were sourced from a foreign supplier.

I measured the runout and I have about .0045 on the primary side.. Sounds like it should be OK. Now I have to see if the threads can be repaired.

I agree with Bigzzed. Wouldn't pul the lower unit and send the crank out to balance and weld for .0045" runout. But I would check it each season or if you should notice a new vibration. If it gets bad enough, it will destroy the oil pump and will cause bad juju to happen to your motor.

Not trying to be condescending, but was that total indicated runout (TIR where runout on both sides of zero are added together) or was it the max reading you recorded?

The specs djl listed above are TIR.

Yes, that was total runout, When I had it set to 0, it had gone to almost -.001 and then positive between .003 to .004.

Cool. Hopefully the threads clean up nice and you can get back on the road.
