i have 17,900 miles on my 2011 roadglide no problems to this date i just started hearing this noise coming from the left side. bought a new primary gasket and pulled the primary cover checked what the torque value was. book said 100 ft pounds initial tourque back off 1 full turn and retorque to 140 foot pounds. noise still there. can a compensater go bad that it would have to be replaced? taking it to the stealer 2 morrow but thought maybe someone here could help me out maybe give me some advise.

What kind of noise?
Clutch in/out?
Whining/knocking/clunking/squealing?
My rule of thumb..... never try to fix something that is covered by warranty yourself. That's why there's a warranty. And the dealer could turn into a jerk and claim you broke it by trying to fix it yourself.
If I went into my dealer to buy a primary gasket, the parts guy would start questioning me.... he would tell me to "Bring it in.... it's under warranty"

its a clunking noise at idle i bought the gasket and tightened the compensator according to the manuel. iam going to take in tomorrow i just thought i would do it myself and save the time of waiting cuz they have a large back log and iam leaving for vegas bike week soon. it makes the same noise when i shut her off also.

How was your primary chain.... was the adjuster doing it's job?
There is an issue with newer 6 speeds making a noise at idle.... mine doesn't do it...... but then again, I use BelRay in the trans, so that might help
Mine (2011) makes a clunk when I shut her off too. I checked with a couple other people and theirs do it too, even with the SE compensator. It sounds like the primary chain making a slap as it stops.

a reminder to disconnect the battery when digging in the primary- it is possible to activate the starter by manipulating the bendix ( starter gear)--- if activated, the primary drive turns which can pluck your fingers right off-
the starter motor can be activated this way completely independent of the ignition switch, starter button, relay etc.--- it doesn't matter if the keys are in the bike, your pocket or inside the house.
take the time to remove the battery negative cable

When you refilled your primary, did you put in the 38 oz, as recommended in the Owners Manual?
I know this sounds crazy, but I had the same "clunk", especially when easing in and out of 1st gear, while at a stop light (esp. when facing up-hill).

Interesting......sounds like my noise. When taking off in 1st gear, I get a clunking coming from the primary side until the clutch in fully dis-engaged.....UNLESS I give it lots of throttle. It's a pain in the a$$ in a parking lot when you are trying to creep slowly, cuz you sound like a **** revving the engine just so that it doesn't make the clunking sound.
My bike runs great other than this aggravating sound when creeping slowly in 1st gear right around the friction point of the clutch.
