also comp bolts should be used one time only due to high torque and stretching that is why the method of the two step process of torquing the bolt and yes red lock tight a must. Keep us posted of what the dealer has to say and if they actually can fix it.

Default 2010 Ultra

I have a 2010 Ultra with 29,000 miles. A friend (former HD Master Tech) was putting on a new rear tire. He asked me if sometimes it made a kind of clicking or clunking noise on letting the cluth out in first gear. Kind of like engine knock but from the left side. I said yes and he said my compensator was going. Said listen to this as he let clutch out against brake. Instead of engine bogging down it started to make a clicking noise from the primary.
Took it to the dealer and they are replacing the compensator. They are putting in a SE one because in 2011 they are standard on all touring models.

I have noticed that I hear two "clunks" when shifting gears on my 09 Ultra. The 1st is the typical clunk when shifting with the heel-toe shifter, but the second clunk occurs when I let the clutch lever out. And not just when letting the clutch out in 1st gear, it's all gears. Do you suppose that's the same clunk that your former HD Master Tech was referring to? I had my Indy re-torque the compensator bolt when he was in the primary to fix a leak, but he said everything checked out ok. But, he also said he couldn't hear the 2nd clunk when he rode it. So I wonder if my compensator is on it's way out? I'll have to try the clutch/brake thing to see if I get any clicking noises.

Actually, the refill quantity "dry", as in when you remove the outer primary cover, is 45 ounces, not 32 or 38, uless this has changed. My '07 book states 45 ounces dry and 38 if just doing a fluid change.

Just wanted to be sure you knew - somewhere in this thread 32oz and 38oz were mentioned and as you've read, 38 is only for a fluid change.

just changed out mine on the weekend on my 08...when i looked at the original (non se) compensator it was not beat up it just looked as though it was always riding at the tip of the ramps...its just a weak p.o.s. it just flops back and forth between its max travel with nearly no resistance at all. The s.e comp. eliminated all the "can of rocks" noises from the primary when feathering the clutch..i still feel some slack which i assume is from the chain but much better
