Good morning all,
I recently purchased a 2014 Ultra Limited. So far I love everything about the bike. I upgraded from a 2005 EGC. At 840 miles the dealership did the first service on the bike and the radio update. The day after I picked it up from the dealer we took a ride from Jersey to the Outerbanks and I noticed that after about 200 miles I started hearing noise out of the primary. When he bike is cold not so much noise until it gets warmed up. I believe and a friend that was with me said the Comp Sprocket is what is making noise. I will be dropping off at the dealer this week and I will keep you guys informed of what they find. I now have 2400 miles on it and it still runs fine just very noisy sitting at idle.
got my bike back from the dealer and its pretty quiet now. they told me that they couldn't see anything wrong after they took the primary cover off so they called Harley and Harley told them about "shims" at the compensator- hey thats what they told me anyway- they were loose so they readjusted everything and now-so far- its all quiet
Great, even the 14 SE compensator is having problems. I had high hopes that this time Harley got it right.
The new 14 have a lot of nice improvements, looks like the comp isn't one of them.
Well, just purchased a new 2015 limited and am having the same problem, everything was fine until the 1st 1k service, went on a road trip and at the 2k mark primary started making a rattling noise, idle slows down to the point of almost stalling, sounds like a miss.......it do it at cold startup, only does it at idle when warmed up. Engaging clutch has to effect but it stops when put in gear. Has anyone found out what the problem is and what the fix is yet? I'm not gonna buy "its normal" from Harley. I am running Amsoil primary and transmission fluid, and 20x50 in the motor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I think you already have your answer. Take it to the dealer, reference shims, etc.
Got the same problem on my FLHTK 2014 after I've got it stage 1 "new pipes & air" Got it check at the dealer they say it's normal ?? The fixe is to update with a race tuner so I can adjust the idle ...
This all sounds very similar to my 'issues' as well. My 2014 (purchased brand new in March 2015, 7K miles) has developed a 'cough' at cold start. After starting it goes to cold idle and then 'coughs' and then returns to cold idle. After riding there is definitely a lot more noise coming from the primary on my 2014 than there is on my 2011. I don't believe these two are related, but i'd be nice to have my new bike be as smooth as my old bike.
Of course the dealer techs never hear or see anything, so I started taking a video every time I cold start the bike. Showed the dealer the video and at least they finally believe me. Still haven't done anything about it though. I'll have to bring up the shims next time i'm there.
