Just out of curiosity to you guys who are having problems after the bar install... did you disconnect the battery, or pull the maxi-fuse before installing the new bars?
The person that did my install did not disconnect the battery or pull the fuse. What exactly happens by not doing either one of these things? Thanks
I'm not saying that's what the manual says to do, I haven't looked it up. But from 30 years of experience of working on cars, trucks, and other equipment... I don't ever recall seeing any situation where it's not recommended to disconnect the battery before doing any electrical-related service.
Our bikes are slightly different than cars and trucks, because this can be achieved a majority of the time, by just pulling the maxi-fuse. If nothing else, and as an added safety precaution, it can't hurt anything.
I didn't do either. I figured I was just connecting and disconnecting plugs so what the hell. Probably my own fault. I am sure I caused my own codes and problems. Happened only once to me. Has been prefect since. I am willing to bet that when you disconnect the throttle grip sensor that the ecm sees it somehow. I just never even thought of clearing codes when I was done. Next time I will know.

I've cleared codes til I was blue in the face. Problem keeps coming back. It's doing it again so it's going to the dealer Sunday so they can take another whack at it.....maybe this time they'll get 'er done.
I went a head and followed your instructions on resetting the TPS before I left work tonight. I also cleared my codes last night per some earlier instructions.I only rode a few miles today but so far no issues. I will update if I have anymore information to share. I might add I'm really surprised this happened since I did not splice any wires but instead replaced the throttle sensor with a new one that has extended wires.
I was struggling with the same codes and the bike going into limp mode for about a month. I changed the TGS(twist grip sensor) to no avail, cleaned the pins on the ECM, pulled the connector apart on the throttle body and cleaned it up, no fix. I found that all of the fuses in my fuse box were corroded and some of them were sooty as if they had been burned. I cleaned it all up and have put 500 miles on it since with no issues, runs better than it did before the throttle issue. I have an 09 SG with 26k miles.
this was just my experience...but i had a check engine light come on and all it was was a loose sparkplug wire connection. mechanic pulled it off and pushed it back on and no more light
Hi, I have a 2009 road glide. I was going down the freeway and all of sudden the bike seem like it was starving for fuel and my engine light came on. I went from 80mph to about 10mph. Stop and shut down my engine for a few minutes and started it back up with no problem except my engine light came on for about 8 seconds then off. Was able to ride home (25 miles) without any problems. The engine light still comes on for 8 sec after starting up then goes away. Bike runs fine. Read the forums (thanks for the info everybody) and did the diagnostic. Came up with the same codes you did - P1511 and P2135. Did the clear process yesterday and the engine light does not come on anymore. Hope it stays that way.
I know what the codes are from the diagnostic but did you ever find out what they mean or what to look for ?
Somebody mention there bike went into a safety mode. What is a safety mode ? Can someone elaborate on this. Thanks.
I am having exactly the same issues as C908. Same codes - same symptoms
3 questions.
1.) If I reset the TPS is there any down side to this. ie could this reset the TPS to a incorrect setting?
2.) I am on vac this week and would like to ride. Am I going to ruin anything by riding with this happening. I cannot get an appointment at the dealer until later in the week.
3.) Anyone have any advise for me to correct this myself?
I should add that this first occurred after washing the bike.
2010 Ultra Classic
20k miles
Thanks in advance.
I would try clearing the codes and ride the bike,if it does it again take it to the dealer and let them deal with it. Good luck I know it is an aggravation.
