Default Check Engine light came on today.

Got on my bike today to go have lunch and the check engine light came on for the first time. I only rode a short distance and it was in the safety mode where I couldn't accelerate enough to shift into second. I pulled over and called my local dealer and he said you just changed your bars didn't you? I said yes but that was a couple weeks and 500 miles ago.He said probably something to do with your throttle sensor.I said I wouldn't think so since I replaced it with a new one that has the extended wires.Anyway after shutting the bike off and starting it back up everything seemed fine for the rest of my lunch ride.Went for about a 25 mile ride coming home and everything was still fine.Anyone have any ideas on what might have caused the check engine light to come on just this one time? I forgot to mention my bike is a 2010 Ultra Classic with 9500 miles. The only thing I have done is install Rinehart slipons on and everything else is stock.There has been no tune and the stock air cleaner has not been removed. I appreciate your comments. Thanks.

Here is more data and info on how to retrieve the codes via the speedo readout:

The IM (instrument module) is capable of displaying DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes).

Speedometer Self Diagnostics: The speedometer is capable of displaying and clearing speedometer, tachometer, TSM/TSSM and ICM/ECM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).

1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.

2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.

3- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release odometer reset button. Background lighting sould illuminate, speedometer needle should sweep its full range
and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and cruise) should illuminate. The word “diag” should then appear.

4 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection menu "PSSPt" with the first P flashing.

5 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module. The module that is flashing is the one you are going to check. To move from one letter (module)
to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time. (from P to S to SP to t and back to P, etc.)

P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module (EFI) / (Ignition Control Module, 'Carbureted')
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer

6 - To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the odometer reset button in for 5 seconds and release. If there are any DTC’s the code will be
displayed or the word “none” will appear if there are no DTC’s. Push the odometer reset button again to view additional codes if they exist.

7 - Record the codes.

8 - If DTC’s are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer reset button. Part number of module will be displayed.
NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in and holding the odometer reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up.
Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch. Run your bike and shut it down then recheck the DTC’s again by repeating steps 1 to 9.
If the code is current it will reappear.

9 – Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the next module.

10 – Turn Ignition switch to OFF.

Had problems with my 2010 Road Glide on a road trip. It wouldn't accelerate at all. The check engine light did not come on however. I unplugged the harness on the rear of the air cleaner, shoved on the pins with a knife, plugged it back in and the bike ran for a few miles. Had the bike hauled to Thunderbird Harley in Albuquerque, NM. by TJ's Motorcycle taxi service. Was a broken wire in the harness that the dealer repaired under warranty. Still think I will try to get a new harness installed now that I am home. Bike did run for 4200 trouble free miles after that. Kudo's to Thunderbird Harley for getting me in and fixed while on the road. TJ's Motorcycle Taxi Service was professional and timely. TJ's charged $216 for coming out 42 miles to get the bike and take it to the dealer. I thought that was reasonable and he took great care with my bike. There is a harley tech tip #415 [I think] that talks of using some kind of grease on some of the throttle by wire connectors.

Same thing happened to me after a handlebar install. I fired it up in the garage for a warm up and no throttle. Here is my handle on it. After playing with the bars and unhooking things I would say I might have turned on the ignition without something hooked up. Therefore I stored a code in the system and never cleared it. After mine did it I hooked up with the computer and say that it was in fact a historic code and cleared it. Been riding it ever since and it has never come back. Might be your situation as well. These stupid things are smarter than we think.

Mine has had problems with this 4 times. I'll take off in 1st gear and when I get up to about 15 mph it flattens out and wont go any faster. I shift to 2nd and crank the throttle. It accelerates normally after that like there is no problem. It throws codes P1510, P2127 and P2138 every time. Sometimes the CEL comes on and sometimes it doesn't. It all started after I changed my bars but it's been to the dealer 3 times and when I get it back it is normal for a while but the problem keeps returning. I suspect it's the grip sensor but they've replaced it. I can't remember if they replaced the pins in the plug at the throttle body. I've wiggled the plug with the bike running and couldn't duplicate the problem.

I followed the instructions above and was able to pull two codes P1511 and P2135. Anyone know what these are ? I do not see them on the list of codes. I cleared them and restarted my bike and then shut it down and rechecked for codes and in place of codes it came up showing clear. Any thoughts? Thanks for your comments.
