Just curious due to a few threads I've seen lately. Seems, at least to me, that if you have a Street Glide, Road Glide, or Electra Glide, people are recommending changing the windshields almost immediately.
Yet I rarely see such advise when the bike is the Road King.

Yet I rarely see such advise when the bike is the Road King.
So, to cure the curiousity, here's a poll.
It's rather obvious that the factory windscreen on the Street Glide is pretty much for looks only.
It looks cool, but offers very little wind protection.
The Road King on the other hand has a full windshield from the factory.
In order to keep as much of the Street Glide styling as possible, most people add a slightly taller "recurve" style windscreen.
This keeps the short look, but give you pretty close to the same (or better) function of the full factory style windshields.
I swap seats around, therefore height changes and need for windscreen height.
I buy take-offs from "upgrading" riders for cheap and cut the bottom edge to desired height
the bargain solution

Enjoyed the stock RK windshield but was looking through it which is ok but I would rather look over it.
Got a 17" LRS and it's just enough to keep the wind from blasting my face but I look over the top of it.
Picked up an old nasty windshield (for the metalwork) and have both shields to choose from. Will only use original tall shield when the weather get's really cold (for longer trips)
I liked my stock detachable on my 2003 RKC. On the 2008 SG, the stock shorty was a bit too short for my hieght, so I put on a 2" taller smoked Kuryakyn and really like it. Still catch a few bugs but not like the stock windshield. Ride safe dudes.
01Eg. i changed the windsheild to a great looking 3" shield. i am in the country so almost everywhere i go is on the highway.the wind was so bad i couldn't see.i put the stock shield back on
