Default 2012 tourpak quick removal

Hi All.
just ordered my first brand new bike - 2012 ultra (got an RK custom currently).
I am having it delivered with the HD quick removal tourpak kit (got it free of charge from dealer inc fitting here in the UK).
What i want to know is;
  • when i take it off, do i need to do anything other than remove it and unplug any wiring harneses ?
  • do i need to remove/change any antenna's
  • is there anything under the seat extra/addded that might stop my new single seat from fitting ?
A few questions i know but i'd like to be prepared for 2 weeks time when i pick it up.

Thanks everyone
Rowle - UK.

If they do it correctly (many do not) you only will have to disconnect the quick disconnects at the speakers on both sides and the disconnect to the lights. The wires can then be tucked under the seat altho mine has low profile seat with pillion so not sure how they will all fit under a solo seat. there cables stay connected to the antennas but you need to unscrew the antennas from the trunk and screw them onto the antenna mounts that come with the kit when going back and forth.

Hi MTclassic,
Thanks for the answer.
do you have a photo of what your bike looks like (and the wiring) when the tpak is removed ?
Thanks again.

Hi Rowle,
Mine is a standard FLHT and has the optional power + antenna cables folded under the left cover. You could perhaps use the same empty volume to store yours.
It's really handy to have two bikes in one with a changeover time of 10 minutes to remove the TourPak + Touring seat + passenger strap and make a lower profile arrangement.
I kept the standard 'Sport' seat added a sissy bar and a luggage rack for riding around Geneva. A better feature for the passenger strap could be a quick detach; as it stands you need to unbolt one side common to a saddlebag fixing point the other side uses a Phillips screw #3, same as for fixing the seat on the fender. If you have a flat 7/16" ratchet spanner this will reduce time for changing the strap (in my case) because you don't need to remove the saddlebag.
The 'Brukus saddlebag secure' keep the saddlebag mounts in position when you release the bolt holding the strap, so you gain time again...
Cheers
Richard

After you reinstall the tour pack with the quick disconnect does it rattle, vibrate or make only unusual noises then if it was still hard mounted.

Thanks mtclassic for the awesome pics. I too, will be doing the detach thing on my new 2012 RGU. Was no problem on the previous '06 RG,with the Hogtunes Ultra system, but I was wondering what I was going to do with the passenger intercom port and the licence plate re-location since it is now attached to the tourpak. I was only going to buy the 4pt.docking and tourpak mount, since I won't be using the CB and use a "tunetrapper" FM antenna in the fairing. Not sure if I'm crazy about the licence plate mount that comes with the kit, but I see yours looks OK.
Thanks again, pics are worth a thousand words.
Kenny

Quick tour pak removal/install is a GOOD thing....got it when I bought my '05 FLHTCI new.....put it on myself.....only time I have it on is when the wifey goes, or I go on a long trip by myself.

no rattles as the tour pack weighs a ton. I had one on my last bike and I had the pack off and on 100's of times in the 80,000 miles I had the bike. Number 1 best addition I have done. I am not nuts about the license plate mount but it is not as bad as I first thought.

i,d totally forgot about the licence plate bit of the kit.
I see the rear passenger intercom point looks ok as well strapped down the side of the saddlebag.

i'll post pics of mine next weekend and let you know.

Thanks again.
