Default RE: When to replace rear tire

I have 11.500 miles on mine and still have about 2-3 K left but looking to replace over winter so I don't have to bring it in the 1st month of riding. My dealer say's on the original stock tire fits the Street Glide since I wanted to see if i could put on a bigger tire.

I've got 13K on mine and it's the stock Dunlop. It's definitely ready for a change and I won't ride it in the rain unless I get get caught. It's way to slippery and my back end slides out from under me in wet roads. So...I've just been waiting for winter where I won't be riding as much so I can change it. Think I'm gonna try the Metzler this time around.

It doesn't matter if you get 1k or 10 k out of your tire if it doesn't look or feel right get it off the bike All rear MC tires with proper psi will wear in the center Ever feel a wobble in a long hi speed turn It's the tire It doesn't have to be worn out put a new one on some dealers will mount and balance no charge when you get a new tire there hhhmmm $150 for a new tire or.............crash and burn why chance it oh I'm just going out for a little ride right

I live in the mountains and 6-7K is all I get out of my rear tires. My buddy has the Metzlers on his Ultra, same milage but he said it handles better.

I replaced my rear tire at 18,000 miles and it looked like I could have finished the season with it. But I had the rear wheel off having the spokes tightened so I figured "why not". The front still looks fine, but I'm finding small cracks at the bottom of the grooves. I think I'll change it out this winter... I got my moneys worth out of them for sure!!

I was at the dealter this past week with a friend and when he scheduled a 10k mile maintenance, he was told that the rear tire normally gets changed at that service. I have 6k miles, and the rear tire is still OK.

In any event, have the tire checked if you have doubts. Earlier this year, a 'blow out' (rear tire) killed a biker on the Intestate. Not sure whether he hit debris or whether the rear tire was worn....however, it served to remind me to have mine checked regularly.

I tell you what, if I had the money (I don't) I'd replace rear tires every 5,000 and front tires every 10,000 miles....Everyone of you must have noticed how much nicer your bike handles and rides on fresh rubber. Once that profile starts getting squared off, the ride slowly diminishes at a rate we don't really notice till we get in sketchy situations, or until we replace our tires and relearn how the bike is supposed to handle.

Wouldn't it be nice to keep that feeling all the time....all it takes it money.

As it is, I run mine till they are nearly bald. I've got about 22,000 miles on the front and 11,000 on my rear....but they are DONE...I sent of my rear with a BIG SMOKEY DONUT BURNOUT just last week to signal the end of my season.

My 06 Ultra has 6800 miles on it and the rear tire needs replaced. Since this is my first Ultra I think 6800 miles is good. I don't ride aggressively so the sides have alot of tread left. Something I'll have to work on this year!

The only thing I would like to add to this, is what I was told bya independent mechanic. He said that here in New Mexico if an insurance adjuster came to look at the bike after an accident, they would turn down the entire claim if the tires are worn, no matter who was at fault. I also took a rear tire to 16,000 miles and it was totally bald and had 5 large cracks in the sidewall. Don't know how I did have a blow out!
