Kind of in a big jam, I have two new Dunlap 402 front tires and I need to change the tire on my rear wheel 402 also. I am short on funds and cannot find any information that will tell me not to run a front tire on the rear wheel. I need advise of whether it's a problem or not (05 Ultra)
If the tire fits on the rim, I suppose you could do it. The front and rear are different sizes however. Me personally, I'd try selling the extra front tire on ebay or craigslist and then buy a rear. I would err on the side of safety. The tires are designed for front and rear applications and I think it's unknown what the ramifications under duress (hard cornering etc.) might be. Others on the forum may have experience doing this and have more insight, but thats my .02.

Dunlop's website says "front tire only- not interchangeable with rear tire". Meaning if you do mount a D402F on the rear they won't be liable in the event it fails. Selling the extra on ebay or craigslist etc. sounds like a better idea. It's your bacon though, if you're ok with it knock yourself out.
Amazing the fears that come from rumors.Of course you can run those tires on the rear. It's all a marketing ploy.People today would have an ulcer if they saw the tires we used to run years ago before dedicated motorcycle tires were the norm.We used to scour junkyards scrounging for VW car tires then run the **** out of them usually down to the canvas.Back in the days we rode like madmen, and loved every minute of it.
Due to tread and composition differences because of acceleration forces versus stopping and rotational forces, you can safely run a rear tire on the front by flipping it around so it rotates the opposite way. The front tire on the rear will be bald sooner than later
Sometimes the guy asking if something can be done goes ahead and does it...While everyone is telling him it can't be done...Myself I wouldn't do it...Only because I have options...Depending on an individual's situation we never know if that is his only option.
