Question new noise/cam chain tensioner/push rods/??/inspection advice

Hello all
4 years ago had my cam chain tensioners go out 32,000 miles, what a mess. Had it all replaced, bearings, tensioner and cam plate with stock parts. After coming home last weekend from a little out of town excursion I detect a new noise from the right side. Don't know if the tensioners etc are going or if it's pushrod noise. Got a wurring sound kinda at idle,I checked the primary chain first little loose tightened it a bit put some new oil in, still got the noise. When accelerating just before shifting getting some rattly, clangy kinda noise. While I've always accepted some noise this is a different type. Have always used Amsoil 20/50 in it.

My question is can I pull the cam cover off and check it myself without draining the oil?
Any way to check the pushrods?

00 R/K, 48,000 mi, fuel injected

Thanks in advance

Yes you can pull the cover off. You will lose a little bit of oil. You may need to lean on kick stand when you put the cover back on to keep oil from seeping out as it needs to be clean when putting new gasket on. Also, I had to loosen exaust and remove floor board. It's about a 3 hour job to check inside there. Get one of those dental mirrors with a light. Don't no how at 48K you would go through 2 sets though. I checked mine at 51K and they still looked good. Don't see how pushrods can go bad, lifter/tappets sure. I'm sure somebody will have better advise.

Have the lifters been replaced?

Do you have adjustable pushrods?

Might want to check your oil pressure also? Oil pump may be making the noise.

Might be something else going on.

To inspect the cam shoes....have to move the front headpipe. The Harley service manual is pretty good on this.

From what you describe I suspect tensioners again. Whirring noise is one of the symptoms the pads might be worn to the metal.
