Sporty i've done exactly what your thinkin of doing. I slipped off the left pipe from the headpipe, inserted chevy freeze plug, by the way no welding is required. It'll be so tight it wont leak or come out. Slip the left pipe on and you have the appearance of factory exhaust but its a two into one. Ok heres the bottom line on performance on MY bike which was an 06 stock 88ci. 4 yes FOUR pounds of TQ improvement at the peak but it moved it down the RPM scale. On take offs from idle it was a noticeable difference. I dont remember if the hp changed. Ok next i installed a Rinehart 2 into 1. Same dyno = 5lb tq at about the same range. Almost identical charts. I have a riding buddy with an 08 ultra, stock headpipes with rinehart slip ons who is my test dummy. With my stock exhaust I lost every race no contest. With either 2 1nto 1 i could hang on 0 to about 65 or 70. I installed Rinehart TDs and 0 to 100 they were neck and neck. Toss up who wins in the 1/4. My opinion is on a stock motor(no cams or head work) a two into one is not worth the money or the effort! Sorry for the book but thats my findings in the real world!

Coolerman that is the kind of info I was looking for. I am planning on doing tw-555 cams from fuel moto this winter and was thinking about a 2 into 1 pipe for the bike also. My bike being a 07 model I have a PC3, High Flow AC from fuel moto. I also have 2 different size baffles for my Rush slip on mufflers. Right know I am running the 2.5" baffle with true duals love the sound. But I have a set of 1.75" baffles laying around. My thought was installing a freeze plug and putting in a 1.75" baffle. But from what others have said there must be a lot of engineering going into the muffler of a 2 into 1 pipe compared to a ordinary muffler. Wonder how much of a difference it will really make?

The more performance mods you have the more you will benefit from a 2 into 1. For me i'd rather have the stereo sound of Rineharts.

Well, if I were you I'd remove the true duals and sell them to a friend or on here. That will free up some cash to pick up a Dragos 2 into 1 system. Its $640 or so is very well made and sounds kick ***. Also dozens of different tips available. A truly underestimated product IMO. I added it when I did my CR575 cams and the bike makes great power. You'll gain quite a bit of power from a good 2 into 1. I wouldn't bother making one yourself because the engineering required to build a good quality 2 into 1 is beyond just chopping off a pipe and plugging the hole.

Here is a video the night I put it on. Most accurate sound is from the side. When I go to the rear I think it over loaded the mic.
