I slowly over time got heated gloves (Gerbing), heated jacket liner(Harley), heated socks(Gerbing) and a set of heated bibs with a rain cover(Gerbing, discontinued) and used just the on/off switch. Turn it on, turn it off, on, off, on, off for Eight Hundred Miles.
Last year broke down and bought the Dual Controller(Harley).
So much nicer. Now I can set the gloves to one temp and the bibs and socks to another. I hardly ever plug the jacket liner in, just use the bypass wires in it.
It's a pain to put on but I stay nice and warm until I have to stop for gas every 220 miles or so.
I just have the controller between my legs on the seat. One day I do need to neaten things up some.

Thanks to all that contributed. (Waiting for the cold to try out my new toy!)
I don't know why Warm and Safe doesn't advertise more but they sell a remote heat controller that mounts anywhere on your bike and communicates with your heated jacket via a remote sender in your heated jacket pocket. No dangling wires...

That's called "mainlining".

so will the Warm and Safe remote heat controller work with gerbing's heated gear? I like the idea but already have complete set of gerbing's.

I will somewhat qualify my comments about the controller being absolutely necessary. You can get away with just the on off switch wearing gloves only. When you add the jacket liner, that is REALLY when you need the controller. If you run that jacket liner 100%, it will cook you.

I just wire tied my plug to the top of the saddlebag guard on the left side of the bike where it comes off the battery. Then I just lay the controller in my lap for easy access. Of course you'll ned to bunch/bundle the excess wire so you don't trip all over it.

Yabbut... wouldn't you still have "dangling wires" when you plug the liner/gloves into the bike - you still have to get the power via a hardwire? I can see the advantage of having the controller mounted elsewhere but nothing other than a portable power source can get you away from the tether.

I put mine under the left lip of the seat along the top of the heat shield. It's almost unnoticeable and it's right by the inside of my left thigh. I'm looking for the best location that allows easy access (to plug in while in the go if necessary) but doesn't look too gaudy or have wires scratching my paint. I haven't used it yet - we'll see soon how it works.

Yes there's still one power wire, but it eliminates the two additional wires and the heavy controller dangling from the jacket.
