(on Wednesday)I'm going to a RKC because the dealer cant find a standard with cruise and ABS anywhere nearby. I really want the hard bags, so I think I'll sell the leather ones and buy the hard bags from the dealer. (dealer wont swap them).
So I'm thinking I'll sell the bags on craigslist. How much should I ask for them? They will literally have zero miles on them.
I would think no more than 60% to 75% of dealer cost. Unless your offering a full warranty as the dealer would, then you could ask full price. Also, check out e-bay and look at the bidding-not what they want. Good luck with it whatever you do.
There's a 2012 Midnight Pearl Road King (FLHR) at Hoosier H-D in Elkhart, IN. It has ABS, security and cruise. It's a fine lookin' bike - couldn't take my eyes off it. However, I'm not one for ABS and security. So tell your dealer to call Hoosier H-D and have them do a dealer swap. If he won't do it, drive there yourself and get it. Don't buy a Classic if that's not what you're looking for. Eventually you'll beat yourself up for not buying exactly what you wanted. Voice of experience speaking here. There are options.
...have the dealer to exchange with new hard bags as part of the deal. I'm sure if you stood your ground they would make the exchange...if not look elsewhere.
You really ought to consider what "one- Up" has suggested. I personally would not be inclined to do business with a dealer who would not even entertain a saddlebag swap of some kind. Good luck in your quest!
I kept mine, bought new color matched hard bags later, now switch them back and forth a couple of times each year. Bike is 07 RKC, 40,000 miles, and the change up keeps me from looking at the new bikes. It helps that wifey has a 2010 SG, but nonetheless, each time I switch my bags, it is like a new bike rolled into the garage. Just can't take my eyes off of it. RKC replacement bags list for close to $550 each, have yet to see one fetch more than $350 on eBay. That said, if you get $350 each, that gets you better than half way to the hard bags.
On ebay a few days back a new set with tags brought $585.00 and $50.00 shipping. You should be able to ask $500.00 on craigs list firm. The worn bags bring 2-300. I would not get in a hurry and keep after a standard Road King you can add cruise easily and I wouldn't want the wire spoke wheels on a classic they have tubed tires.
