I didn't want to hijack another's thread about a gps. Anyone use a tomtom? I have two for our cages, would like to get a mount for sg. I googled tomtom mount and they make them but I never read anyone on here using one. Seems like everyone using a Nuvo.

If there is a reason please post up.

Thanks.

I think the main reason is nuvi use simple mini usb plug and tomtom uses a twist mount. Check out gps city or the mount guys for ram cradles.

I had a bike TomTom and it was ok but while in France riding the screen went due to the hot weather. The car TomTom may not cope with the vibration, and may not cope with rain.

I have used the Garmin Zumo for the last couple of years and it functions well.

I had a TomTom Rider (it's in a junk drawer someplace) I got rid of it when it tried to take me through a cornfield in the middle of nowhere in Iowa. To it's credit, there was a trail through the corn..... probably from other TomTom users.

I use a Tom-Tom 130 mounted using a RAM mount on my left handlebar. In real bright sunlight it's a little washed out, but 90% of the time I can see it fine. Can't hear it over road noise/stereo, but I never listen to it anyway. Visual is good for me. Got one of the 12v to mini USB power converter and connected to the spare power line under the fairing and leave it on the bike all the time. Gloves work fine with the touch screen.

I have a Tom Tom 540XL, but the screen is very washed out when mounted on the handlebars. The RAM mount works fine but the screen is very hard to see in sunlight.

Well, now I think I'll be shopping for a new gps come next riding season. I've used both Garmin 200w/255w auto units with no issues but now thinking about a 5" screen model. Doing some i-net shopping I see some tomTom XXL 540/550M units in the $120 area and Nuvi 1450LM units for around $165. Using a RAM cradle won't require the use of the goofy rotating mount of the TomTom and that makes it more appealing. Being the frugal shopping guy I am, I find great values on Black Friday so I'll hold out.

I use the Garmin Zumo 450 - been around the block many times - died once over the years and Garmin replaced it for $75 - Does everything I ask - wold love to get the new Zumo but $$$$$$$$$$$$$ keeps me with my old friend.

It goes with out saying - However - watch that GPS too much and your day on the Harley will really get messed up. Eyes on the road.

I am using the Tom Tom 730. Plug in a 4 gig SD card for music all week (plug into aux on factory stereo). This way music cuts out when directions are given. Also has bluetooth so I know that someone is calling (no, don't answer it!) but can sneek out from work and call back at the next stop. Use the Kury fuel door mount with universal water proof case. When I don't need the GPS, I pop in the sat radio.

I had a tomtom on my bike for a while. Go to www.mountguys.com; you'll find a solid mount there for a reasonable price.
