I just swapped the plug wires on my SG, I had to disconnect the fuel line (really easy to do on the newer models) and unbolt the tank to lift it enough. I didn't remove the fuel crossover, but it was really tight getting my hands in there to plug the wires into the coil. It would have been a lot easier to just remove the tank. I learned my lesson and ordered a quick disconnect to install on the crossover line if/ when I ever need to remove the tank again.
Heres what I do;
Run the tank as low as you can. Get a short length of 5/16 fuel line, two hose clamps and two bolts that will fit into that line. Put one bolt in the end of the piece you have and clamp it down. I did this on the right side of my Ultra, lower fairings removed. Put towels down on front fender and stuffed as may as I could on top of motor and generally around that area to catch any spills. Take a set of vice grips and put some duct tape on the jaws to soften up the edges. Clamp that onto the fuel line opposite the side you will remove it from the tank. Remove line from tank with the other piece of fuel line ready to put on the tank. The piece you removed will trickle a little but not much because of the vice grips. After all is secured with those lines, remove the tank the rest of the way. Gives you a good chance to clean and wax the thing real good too. Just my $0.02
