TexasSG, I'm looking at putting the same front end on my SG with different wheels. Were you able to lower the fender using the fender mount on the American Suspension or did you have to fabricate/buy another bracket? Also, what is "shaving the fender"? Your set up looks sweet.
phnxrider, I lowered (and leveled) the fender by drilling & grinding (shaving) the rivets.
The process was as follows. Remove fender then drill & grind rivets off which leaves you with three pieces: the fender, the left bracket and the right bracket. Bolt the brackets back onto the fork legs. Tape a 24" piece of 3/8" hose to the center of the tire (to insure proper tire to fender clearance) and the set the fender back onto the brackets. Position the fender level (or wherever you want it) then drill 1/8" holes through the fender & bracket so the fender can be temporarily riveted in place. Take the fender assembly back off the bike and then plug weld the fender to the brackets through the original factory rivet holes. Drill out the temporary 1/8" rivets and weld up those holes. Grind it all smooth then comes body work and paint.
I am pulling the trigger today finally, American suspension entire frontend. I like the fact that the upper tubes slide through the upper clamps for less flex. It is an air ride setup, with internals as good or better than the add on components for the stock forks.
I can't make my mind up on running a 21" vs the 23"(in which american offers a raked clamp kit for this wheel)
TexasSG, thanks for the help. The process is way above my skill set, I'm no welder or body man. Any idea what it would cost to have a body guy do it (rough estimate)?

I'd guess around $300.00
Just position the fender where you want it, temporarily rivet it in place then take it to a body shop.
