Pipes sound great, but not very loud—course it could just be my computer.

What db are the M-119's? V&H said their Fishtails run about 101 db's without the quiet baffles.

I am running the Vance and Hines Fishtails, I believe they are around 2 or 2 1/4" in diameter with a near full coverage heat shield. Only part unshielded is on the backside that you cannot see. I am using the quiet baffles so it is not so obnoxious and helps with the power. I really like the looks of the Samsons and I had nothing but Samsons on my Softail, but when I was looking for fishtails, Samson did not have any heat shield covered ones so I knew they would eventually yellow or blue for me. Running across the desert at high speed at 110 degrees will cause about any unshielded pipe to turn colors eventually.

Do the Samson's not have heat shields. Are the pipes chromed with no shields?!

Correct, the samsons are quad chrome plated, VERY high quality but no heat shields. My V&H fishtail IIs sound deep and when I crack open the throttle the comply with a HEALTHY roar LOL. I have the standard baffles that I wrapped with wood stove door gasket rope to "mature" the sound so to speak

I've got the Fishtail II's on my bike and am really happy with them. Samsons have a more traditional fishtail sound, but I liked the head shields on the V&H pipes. You can't go wrong with either.

I don't think I like the idea of no heat shields... Seems that they would blue over time. Maybe V&H are the way to go.

Spoke with Samson... they said the m-119's are 95 db's at idle. They said that the pipes should not blue, but will not guarantee that they won't. They said that if they do blue it is a lean tune and my fault.

Then spoke with Vance and Hines... they said their Fishtails will not blue do to heat shields and are 101 db's at 2500 rpms.

I am guessing that the Samsons are louder at idle, but not sure... they may be able the same. The Samsons are defiantly cooler looking (more vintage), but without a heat shield I think they are destined to blue over time.

If your bike see tuned properly they will not blue. The only way they will blue is if you are running a stock tune with a stock air filter and no tuner. They have to cover their own *** on this issue as it happens all the time. I am not sure if you are running a tuner or a high flow air filter but a few simple adjustments can be made to make the bike run better and cooler an keep the pipes from blueing. Excessively hot engines cause the pipes to blue.

The reason V&H says their pipes will not blue is that the full coverage heat shields will cover any portion that does. If you avhe questions about all of this please email me at DREW@DRVTWIN.COM and i will explain as best as I can. I get frustrated when people don't get the proper information or understand exactly what it is that causes the blueing.
