I believe you are correct. A bad comp will wear out a starter clutch. I went through 3the starter clutches before I replaced my comp. No more issues.
soft 02,
So I ordered a new HD starter clutch although now maybe I should be looking at aftermarket. I have been reading old threads and it looks like it would be a good time to also replace my stock compensator to a SE compensator at the same time to help eliminate this issue from coming back do you think that would be the best decision in your opinion? Also how hard is it to replace the starter clutch? I have read theads about the SE compensation and that does not look to bad to swap out. Thanks again for you experience.
I did that too!!! in warranty!! It work fine for two months!! Then started again! Dude I was so mad!! I trade it!!! Lost 2,000 on the trade!! Now I'm very happy with my 2011!! They fixed all the flaws of the 09's and 10's!! This is an incredible bike!!! A keeper!! Love it!!

Yes I agree that if it were me( and I have) I would change your comp also. I will always say it was the best 207.00 I ever spent on my bike. Plenty of good threads on the subject or ask if you need a hand. It will take a lot of shock load off your tranny and inner primary bearing also.
I had the same type of problem with the starter. Dealer changed it under warranty-said comp was OK. A few months later the same problem came up. Dealer replaced starter and comp. I upgraded to SE comp at this time and haven't had any problems since.
