Default More chargeing problems

I have an 06 Electra Glide Classic with 42,000 miles on it. I noticed last week that at idle my volt meter would drop down to 12.5 volts. At start up it would be at 14v but as the engine warmed up it would drop to 12.5v. I did all the checks for regulator and stator operation per info I found here on the forum (Thank you, thank you) and all seemed to check out OK. Since it is still under warranty (ESP) I took it to the dealer and they inform me that the stator is bad and replace it. I picked it up at closing time yesterday and on the way home the volts drop to 12.5. I talked with the service dept. this morning and was told that the regulator check out good after the stator was replaced. I am hoping that a regulator change will cure the problem. Any one else have this happen to their bike? If you had a similar problem what fixed it? Thanks in advance....

My bike is at the dealer right now, after a stator change , and I would guess 3,000 miles regulator is being changed out now.

I think your dealer is just replacing parts instead of working on a diagnosis ( although a bad regulator can damage a stator and vice versa).
Long as you aren't paying fine.

also using air wrench on the compensator can knock the magnets off the rotor, damaging the new stator.

spent part of today drilling and tapping threads torn out of a set of mufflers by installing dealer tech and his happy air wrench

My regulator is toast , because it would only put 11.6 volts at 2,000 rpm.

Yes this is common I have found many that when a problem like this sets in they just change both without being just a parts changer it makes since in this scenario to me.

You do not state idle rpm but it takes about 1600-2000 to get the 14.8 or so. Granted my bike does about 13-14 at idle of 1100 or so but I can pull it down with clutch to 950 and it drops off to 12.7 or so (battery voltage). I did it not to long ago answering a persons question. Do not worry about idle volts. Check 2000 rpm volts. There was probably nothing wrong with stator. Thats easy to check.

After having lost stators at 19,000, then 32.000 and yet again at 52,000 miles, I finally got smart a bought a 3 Phase Charging system. Mine came from Compufire, though I think Cycle Electric and others now sell them too.

I installed it 2 years and 44,000 miles ago and I can't say enough good about it. With my heated gear in the winter with all the lights it just sits at 13.5 volts at any rpm over 2000. And apparently it's built to last. ( 96,000 currently on my odometer.)

Please check them out.

Idles at around 1000 rpms. Voltage was measured at the battery with a volt meter. Starts out at 13.8 and drops to 12.5 out put. Battery is 13 v before start up. My 09 softail stays at 14v out put all the time. Does not drop at idle. The voltage does go up with rpm increase to only 13.5v. Any way I'm off to the dealer this morning to have it looked at, maybe the fix is sitting on the show room floor......

Update:..Dealer told me today that the stator rotor is bad also. Gonna change it out as soon as one comes in. When its ready I'm gonna let it warm up and make sure the voltage doesn't drop before I leave this time. Supposed to rain next 3 days so I told them to take their time and fix it right. I can only hope....lol...
