cruise control
Well, here is the problemon my '02 Ultra. My cruise sets, works well for about 4 miles and then kicks off. I was told 95 percent of the problems are solved by new cruise control module and cables. I bought new cruise and also new cables. Still have the problem! I guess I will sell old module since it will cost me about as much to take everything apart and reinstall old one - and loss of restocking and shipping.
WHAT I have done. Installed new cruise and both cables. Installed all new bulbs since someone suggested that. I have jiggled both throttle and brake cable when riding and that does not disengage it. Jiggled hand brake lever and that does not disengage it. Just riding and all of a sudden it goes off. Does ANYONE have other ideas of what to look for as the problem. I sure like the cruise, but not knowing when it is going to disengage is very stressful and dangerous. The only other suggestion I had was wait till it quits completely inorder to find the problem. HELP!

Did you replace the idle return cable for the throttle? There is a "Roll Off" switch which goes bad ocasionally. You may first notice it failing in the rain. Fairly cheap and easy to replace.

I am having a similar problem. I have an '06 RKC with 4100 miles on it. I used the cruise about 3 weeks ago and it worked fine, then the wife and I were out the day after Turkey day and it would not engage. I turned the cruise on and when I went to set it I could see the indicator turn green but then right back to red. I played with it and got the same results. After I had went a few miles I tried it again and it worked. But then it started kicking off just like you are describing. After that it is hit and miss as to wheather it works or not. I f I get the chance to get it into the shop this week I will let you know what they say.

The cruise control has a self diagnostics that will pinpoint which feature is working and which is not. It is in the '06 electrical service manual, section 7, page 7-3 (7.2).
1. Turn the fairing cap switch to OFF
2. Push the cruise SET/RESUME switch on the right handlebar to SET and HOLD.
3. Turn the Ignition switch to IGNITION. do not start engine.
4. Turn the fairing switch to the on position while still holding the handlebar switch in the SET position. The cruise light should automatically change from red to green.
5. If the cruise light is green while holding, release and then press to RESUME. light will turn red when released then should turn green when RESUME is pressed. If green release RESUME switch.
6. Twist the throttle to the closed position. The light should turn green when the throttle is forced closed. (roll-off switch function). If green release throttle.
7. Pull in the font brake. Same thing, Light should turn green while brake is on.
8. Depress rear brake. Same thing.
9. This is optional. After rear brake, spin the wheel, while bike is on a jack and the light will flash. (speed sensor function). You will already know if this is not working.
Basically this will verify if each switch is working. After entering the diagnostics mode the light should turn from red to green. Green indicates that function is working. If not, It is not functioning. Remember you have to follow this procedure exactly as stated in the manual. If you make a mistake, start over.

Had exactly the same problem. Some one here said to disconnect roll off switch at front right of fuel tank. I did, and problem solved. Now just waiting for something else to go wrong to take to dealer and get fixed with $50 deductable. Just remember, roll off switch will not disconnect cruise. Not a big deal.
