Novelty helmets...What's the point?

I do think that even DOT helmets are of limited value as well. Deaths due to head injuries are not about skull damage they are about fast deceleration where your brain sloshes around in your skull. I've read where DOT helmets can only provide cusioning to something like 17 MPH of decel, beyond that you're dead.
I often see news articles where the cop will say "if he was wearing a helmet, he'd be alive". Really? A cop can know what would have happened, medically, with that level of certainty? I doubt it.
I also think that there are situations where no helmet = dead and helmet= vegetative state. I'd prefer dead.

Funny who the anti-helmet group never brings up no helmet = vegetable and helmet = no vegetable/minor injury/walk away.
Far more to it than the anti-helmet folks even bother to think about.

Wear what makes you happy. But, don't worry what others wear.
Ride your scooter and enjoy it. If your want to wear shorts, flipflops and an armored leather jacket, I don;t give a *****. Do what ever you want.

I removed the floatation foam from my floatation vest (life jacket) because it makes me look fat when I go boating - not.
I don't think the absurd logic of spending money on a hat that looks like a helmet and then wearing it in place of a real helmet ever crosses the mind of a novelty helmet wearer. I'm pretty sure if they actually thought about it they would see the ridiculousness of their behavior.

There's a website i came across a while back, i think it was Richard Quigley's own site but i can't seem to find it. Anyway, it had a helmet similar to the one pictured except smaller and basically a shoe-string chin strap. I big FU to the man. Such an awesome guy, he had like 100 helmet tickets and only convicted of 5 or something because you can't argue it. It says "DOT" on it and has a retention strap. What else do you need?

I'm so very grateful and fortunate to have so many concerned over my well being that they take exception to my personal choices. Be they the helmet I choose to wear or if I use my seat belts while driving.
But please, please, please stop worrying. I have it under control. I am a fully grown adult that has managed to stay alive for nearly 60 years without your help. I'm not on this forum asking anyone else to qualify their choice in women, bikes, helmets, beer, etc....so why are you?
So again I ask: please stop with the sanctimonious, self-righteous, " I know what's best for all of us" criticizing of others. It's not your job.
Now relax your sphincter and move on.

And hence the crux of the argument. I do mind if people smoke i just dont want to pay for there healthcare. If you smoke your healthcare rates should double or triple because you will tax the system with your stupid personal choice. I feel the same way about helmets, don't care if you wear one or not, but if you don't and you end up a tax on the health care system you should have to pay a crap load for your personal choice. But i am not sure how i feel about the no helmet, kevlar jacket, pants and chaps folks....i think the line is blurring
Tell that to the widows of my two friends who have died this year, BOTH while wearing a DOT approved helmet. If you think wearing that brain bucket makes you invincible to life threating injuries from a motorcycle crash, you sir are sorely mistaken, severely misinformed, or so naive that it is pathetic. Maybe all three

So if you have an accident while wearing a helmet and end up in a vegetable state, why the ***** should anyone have to pay for your healthcare? After all, riding a motorcycle in itself (helmet or not) is an inherently dangerous activity.
