When I was younger I blipped all the time, on occasion I have been known to bleep, but now I pretty much just blap, and inevitably I will eventually just blop.

when i got my first bike it was a 1951 flat head with a suicide shift i blipped to clear the carb cuz they ran so rich. i did that with my panhead as well the stock linkert carbs always ran rich now iam riding a 61 pan with a s$s carb and still do it. i blip on my 11 roadglide as well for its a force of habit and it does help slow me down to i have been blipping for years started at 17 iam now 57 so go blip yourself.

Just cuz someones daddy taught them to double clutch and blip the throttle on some antique non-synchronized transmission in a farm truck doesn't mean squat on a motorcycle. Apples vs oranges in transmission design and function. I feel better now.

So you guys would rather lock-up the rear wheel on downshifts than blip the throttle?

Think what you may.

That is exactly why sportbikes have slipper clutches.

You didn't read my previous post. This isn't double clutching. What do you think heel-toe downshifting is for in modern cars? The modern performance automatics and single & dual clutch transmissions? They ALL do it. Even Nissan's 370Z manual has rev-matching downshifting designed in.

The driveline lash alone should tell you differently.

Sport bikes have slipper clutches so they can aggressively drive into a corner, down shift while staying in the power band then power out the other side. All without having the rear wheel break traction during down shifting. As far a modern so called performance cars using the throttle blip on down shifts your right. Lets the guy that just dropped 100k on a AMG Mercedes with an automatic feel like a race car driver. I do agree that blipping the throttle during down shifts in a sports car with a manual does have its place. That transmission has syncros and it helps with high rpm down shifts. Now if you ride your Harley like a sport bike and drive deep into corners, down shift and power out the other side I can see blipping the throttle. My main point is if you've got to blip the throttle to keep the back tire from breaking lose you're just carrying too much speed for the gear you just grabbed.
