Depends on your definition of "trouble free". Most Harley owners are either riding there bike across the planet or sitting around their shops tapping on their tool chest daring something to break. That gives us the chance to wrench and put in better stuff!!! Ha!

Not too much that can go wrong with a Harley that can't be fixed. Ride on and enjoy.

09 rg that i bought new, i have 20k on the clock without problems until now. The starter grinds on start up. Im looking into that now

Since 2005 I have put about 39,000 on 5 different HD's from 1990, 2005, 2002, 2006 and now a 2000 Ultra. Other than tires, oil, plugs, etc....Hardly any problems. There was an injector recall on my 06 Road King and it also broke a wire on the oil pressure switch. I just had the stator go out on a road trip last month. Also killed the battery ($676). First time a Hog ever let me down. My buddies with BMWs--- now that is a different story. Two of them broke down on the same day on a road trip.
