Has anyone had this problem? The fuel gage is reading full but the tank is not full. I believe the float is stuck but was wanting to know if there is a easy fix or will I have to take to the dealer? 2006 Street Glide
I just had the fuel gauge fix at one of the dealers, it read half full when it was full, and empty and fuel light came on when I use only 2 gallons, the first dealer i when, claim its not a gauge but to give a idea what may be in the tank, they really fixed it, so it read empty at 1 gallon useage, I took the bike to Laidlaw's H D and the float was stuck on the tank, so far it's working ok, the bike was in for a day, it's under warrenty go for it.
There was no recall on the '06 Touring models fuel gauge. Some gauges/float assemblies are not accurate.
I had my gauge/float replaced under warranty and it is still off.
Maybe if someone had the time, the float could be adjusted to read the fuel level properly?
If you do a search here there are a lot of posts regarding this issue.
Do like the rest of us, use odometer! LOL Mine has never worked right I think it is common problem. Dealer ordered a part for mine and it came in broken they have reordered. I never even complained about it but they noticed during 5000 Mile service that it was not working right and ordered the part. I never look at the reading or pay any attention to the light I just check milage and fill it up at about 160 miles. Hope you get it working but don't ever rely on it.
sometimes the float gets hung up on the pickup hose and causes a false reading. take the console off and the tank plate to visually inspect. HD puts about 10# of crap in a 5# bag in there. you may need to rerout the fuel line in the tank. If your under warranty, take it in. you have enough knowledge now that the dealer can't BS you.
My 01 RK and my 06 SG's never read accurately except when the light comes on. One gal. left in the tank. Same for a friend's 05 RK. Use the tripometer.
