I'm going to swim against the current here, but if you do a stage 1 your motor will be considerable cooler than the stock motor Harley puts out. I never saw any point in putting a cooler on a 96".
The bike was designed to make it 100K stock, so with a stage 1, why put a cooler on it?
This past summer was brutally hot. Over 100 days that was 100* and hotter. After installing the oil cooler on my 09 Ultra Classic I did notice the oil pressure seem to running noticeably higher pressure according to the gauge.
I'm located in Mass.... Really cool riding out there now but we can be 90+ in the summer.... Thanks for the quick replys!
Oil cooler is an excellent idea, it dropped the temp on mine 20' and if I do get stuck in traffic it cools much quicker as soon as I start moving again. (by my Roger McEwan temp gauge)
You didn't say if your stage 1 eliminated the CAT, but that would be a great idea too. But either way the oil cooler is a good idea.
With my FuelMoto stage 1 and the oil cooler I love the way my 96 07 runs.
Thanks for the replys so far guys... I appreciate it...
Update... I did speak with my service guy (who has been great since I bought the bike last year) and asked his opinion. He advised that it wasn't needed in our climate with a 96... 103, yes.... I apprecied the fact that he didn't just take a $400 service order (oil cooler and install) and talked to me about the application and my reasons for the install. I think I'm going to wait until next summer to determin if it's needed for my riding habbits. This service manager is at the dealer where I bought the bike. I feel as they're looking out for me to keep me as a long term customer and not just trying to get whatever money I'm willing to spend... I like the way they're doing business with me.
Answer to the above post... My stage 1 has Python slip on's and a Screamin' Eagle AC... Tune done with Harley stage 1 map. I still have the stock headers with the cat. I'm considering upgrading to true duels next year to get rid of that issue...
