Default Oil cooler

Hi guys... I have a 2010 Road King with the standard 96ci engine (with a stage 1). I'm trying to decide if I want to install an oil cooler. I don't do a lot of long rides (over 200+ miles a day) so I'm not sure if I really need this. What are the major benefits of installing the cooler (besides the obvious cooler oil!).... I know these are now standard on the new bikes with the 103. Thanks for the advise!

I say put it on, your bikes motor will have a tendency to last longer and leak less as the seals won't bake quite as much plus when its really hot outside, within your 200 mile range motor sheds heat better, its a good thing, can't go wrong

they slightly increase oil capacity as well.

your location ( not posted) has alot to do with this- in Arizona it's kinda of a must.

the oil not only lubricates the working parts of the motor, is also removes heat form the internals- so cooler oil headed into the motor can remove more of that heat--- the oil is also able to better resist breaking down--- although I still change my oil at 3000 miles or so --- 'cause it is cheap and old habits die hard

Just do it, an oil cooler is a good investment to insure your motor lasting over the long
run, not knowing what part of the country you live in I say get one.

An oil cooler is a good investment, even if you live in MA. I'm in PA and I have the HD Premium oil cooler on my 09 Ultra. I can't say it runs cooler than before because it was installed when the bike was new, but looking at my oil temp gauge, it seems to do a good job.

pmang, your in MA. The summers there can be sweltering, I'm in NJ so I know.

It's definitly worth it to have your air cooled motor have an oil cooler. I ran one on my 75 sporty, 84 FXR, 89FLHT, and now the 11 SG. It made a difference on all of them.

If you haven't already decided on a cooler, I would like to suggest that you consider the fan assisted Jagg cooler.

This cooler seems to cool the oil better than the HD cooler by about 10-20°. That's what it did on my bike and others have reported the same drop in running temperature over the HD cooler. Do a search on here and you'll find references.

Also, the fan helps keep the oil temperature from increasing as fast when stuck in traffic.

There is another company offering a fan assisted cooler but the Jagg unit appears better made to me (brazed hose connections instead of press fit) and the overall appearance is very good.

I would recommend the adapter with the thermostat just because having a thermostat makes more sense to me.

Good luck.

Is it too much to ask someone to do a pic to pic instruction on the fan cool jagg?

That would be very helpful, if someone has the time.

Thanks
