Thumbs up what do you guys think?

here is the situation. I have a copper pearl inner fairing on order. My friend is a painter and is willing to paint black around the gauges and also pinstripe it to blend into the front. Then re-clear. Now i was thinking of getting the ZUMO 660 mounted up like the CVO's have. I priced it all out from the dealer. Along with my dealer HOG club discount that we get it came in at 1053.55. This includes the Zumo, dash pad along with the chrome trim piece. Also the navigation interface and all the rest of the screws etc that are required. Now this price also included replacing the inner fairing with the one I have painted. When I figured it out, its 158 bucks in labor cost to install the new inner fairing, along with the GPS setup. Sounds pretty good to me. I was thinking of doing all this my self but this price makes me think twice now. Looks like there is a lot going on inside that fairing. just want to see what you guys think. thanks Jeff

What color is your bike? The inner fairing sounds interesting, but without knowing the bike color it is hard to imagine how it would look. As far as the Zumo, get it. I will be having the same setup put in this winter.

I have the 2008 anniversary copper pearl and black. I have seen just the plan copper already and it kinda looks plain to me. I'm still not 100% sold on the 2 tome because I am having the dash pad put on as well and that will offset all the solid color also.

I know I wouldn't change out an inner for that money, you better check that price again, should be around 3-4 hrs, don't know what the labor rate is there but even at $90/hr, thats 270-360 labor, there is a lot going on, in there, and If you're not real sure about doing it, I would recommend having a professional do it. Its not hard, but theres a lot to remember on how to route wiring, grounds, ect. just depends on your mechanical abilities.

Our dealer gives Hog club members 15% off the parts and also 15% off the labor. but I thought that 158 bucks for removing the old inner fairing and gauges etc, replacing all that stuff, adding the navigation interface, etc etc was a pretty good price. thats like 2 hours labor rate i think. I'm sure i cant do it all in 2 hrs. then if something has problems like the NIM or something like that I can take it back to them. I have read on here that the NIM is a little touchy with those wires they have to install. I am gonna double check the price but they emailed me the quote. thanks jeff

I'd consider paying the dealer $158 insurance against screwing up the installation; particularly, drilling the inner fairing and pad for mounting the GPS on a painted inner fairing.

As for the paint on the inner fairing, there are a couple of really nice two-tones on anniversary models; IIRC, dawg had one done that turned out great--PM dawg and I'm sure he can send you a link with pictures of his--might be a good example for your painter to use.

Good luck with your project--post some pics when it's done.
