Default 2009 FLHT Compatible Mufflers

Good afternoon,

I have a 2009 FLHTC and I was looking at slip on mufflers. I found a set of mufflers I like but it says the mufflers will not fit my 2009. It says the muffler fits 1986-2008.

Does anyone know if that is correct and if it is not what years are compatible with the 2009 as far as muffler?

What changed in 2009 that make the mufflers from previous years not fit?

While it's true that 2009 FL bikes are kind of overlooked for full exhaust systems, there's a LOT of slip-ons that are compatible.
Try:
Thunder Cones from Rich Products (great sound/performance. Not the most polished look, but I love them).
Vance & Hines
The best part is that you really don't need the aftermarket header pipes.

The stock 2009 (non Catalytic Converter) pipes are as good as anything on the aftermarket. In fact, if it fits a '07 or an '08, it should fit a 2009. The diameter of the terminating end of the header pipe did not change.

However, the manufacturers may never have fit-tested their product on the '09 (it was a bastard year) and therefore don't list it as "compatible".

Everyone makes them. Shop with confidence.

I prefer to go off the beaten path and ride these:

Don't believe what you read at face value on fitment.
Here's what Rush says for fitment on their mufflers , 95-12.

My S&S SPO mufflers are listed as fitting up to 07 , but here's a different listing.

These are only EPA compliant from 2009-2011 , but I'm sure they fit earlier bikes.

Here's 1999-2012 from Fuelmoto.

See where I'm going with this , check around , ask guys here at the forum , you'll get the feedback you need on just about every combination you can think of.

to simplify- if you are looking at slip on mufflers for your stock header pipes, then any muffler meant for a H-D touring bike made form mid 80's to now will fit.
there was a header lip change in 1995 which keep later mufflers from fitting on the pre 95 headers

- if you are looking for header pipes, they have to be for the new 2009 and newer frame ( for mount points).

other info concerning slip ons ( like some of the links) is generally concerned with noise/emissions compliance with catalytic converters- doesn't apply to you.
