Apparently, I am missing something here: If you are drilling holes in the backplate outside the air filter, what good does this do. If you are drilling them inside the diameter of the air filter, then the air filter is usless. Someone explain how this helps air flow. The football cover dosen't restrict air flow..
Joe
Hey Joe, Check with Dawg. I can't remember the Post, but he showed a pic of a stock back plate a guy had modified. Did a nice looking job!

Ok, I did a search and found one on doing it to a Sporty. I understand now, guess I wasn't thinking about the plastic back of the air cleaner as the backplate. Had the picture of the one used with the SE, BS and others. My bad...LOL
The Fuel Moto site has a note that says the AN filters are made in China. It also seems to insinuate that the SE back plates are somehow better than the milled back plate. Any input on this?
Will any of these kits accept the two hole cover like comes on the Nightster? I'm thinking about putting a few rounds of 7.62 NATO or .45ACP through it, then having it powdered. Stupid?
Are these simple backplates any better or worse than the Heavy Breather style plenum?
What is the difference between a Stage 1 and a Stage 2 back plate? I know the filters are larger typically. I plan on doing cams as well.

I just got a AN Big Sucker recently and I believe I saw Made in the USA stamped into the filter mounting plate.
I have read on here that a number of people have had issues with oil accumulating in the air cleaner housing and then dripping onto the motor.
I have the HD stage one kit air cleaner on my bike which basically just replaces the rear mount and keeps the football style factory cover. I have had no issues with oil in my air cleaner.
That may be something you would want to check into as part of your decision process. If one brand seems to have a lot of people experiencing the oil issue, that could indicate a less than adequate design.
Hope this helps.
Or the filter may be getting over saturated with filter oil. I had that problem with a Pod Mod on a Metric in the past and cured it by spraying less filter oil on the filter, less seems to be more on filters requiring an oil application. Or your getting blow-by from the heads common from Vtwins. Either may not be a design issue rather something that occurs.
