Default Comparing Air Cleaner KIts

I am ready to put a hi flow air cleaner on my bike(2005 Ultra).

I am looking at the Arlen Ness Big Sucker or the Screaming Eagle Kit!

I know the Big Sucker kit can be bought on ebay for around 110.00 shipped.

I found the SE kit from a dealer in St Louis for 122.00 + shipping.

What is your opinion of either kit. I have heard that some have had problems with the big sucker kits coming loose, etc.

I normally don't like doing a lot of modifications but with my Stage 1 on my '09 Ultra Classic I decided on the AC in the picture below. It's nothing fancy or high performance but I think it looks good.

Ive run the Ness BS w/ the washable filter ( K&N style) on my last 2 bikes & most of my riding friends have them as well. I have never had an issue with them coming loose but I do make sure all the bolts have Loctite (Purple) on them & are installed correctly.

I have read where others did have issues with them becoming loose... mine hasn't.

I have read on here that a number of people have had issues with oil accumulating in the air cleaner housing and then dripping onto the motor.

I have the HD stage one kit air cleaner on my bike which basically just replaces the rear mount and keeps the football style factory cover. I have had no issues with oil in my air cleaner.

That may be something you would want to check into as part of your decision process. If one brand seems to have a lot of people experiencing the oil issue, that could indicate a less than adequate design.

Hope this helps.

From what I have seen, they are almost exactly the same...I have two HD's and one Ness...I can't tell them apart really.

I've run the Ness, no problems. I run Fuel Moto now, basically a Screamin' Eagle backplate with a K&N filter. As far as coming loose, proper torque and the correct thread sealant does wonders. They're bolts and holes, the same on every one, don't know how anyone could think anything in that design would cause one or the other to come loose. I'm sure any of the bigger brands work just fine ...........

Joe

Thanks for the input. I kinda thought they looked exactly alike, but figure there must be some differences..
