Has anyone ever heard of this I took my 08 street glide in for 510 cams and other upgrades and the tech calls me and tells me that my bottm end is shot and I need 7 grand to fix!!! I went in and the tolerances are within Harley and S&S spec But he doest see it that way can someone on here help with this.... He also said that the motor wouldnt last 5 more days but he didnt say that 2 days before when he had it reved up to 6 grand tuning it
Crankshaft runout can be alot, this is why cam chains are used.
Is the tech wanting to go with gear drive cams?If thats the case, then the crank run out has to be acceptable and the new stock run out tolerance will not work.
If the crank run out is within factory spec, theres no reason why the cases have to be split to have the crankshaft trued.Just have to use the right parts.
Lots of members here have swapped out cams without having to do major engine work.

If the crank is way out the oil pump internals and the crank spindle should show some sign of wear. If every thing is in speck I would pull my bike out of there and go else where.
I beat the hell out of mine and the last I checked it was .002 when I replaced my broken oil pump this summer.
Well he said something like .010 thousanths and thats within harley and S&S spec so I told him just to go with chain drivin 510 cams instead of the gear drivin
