I am at the moment trying to sell an '04 Heritage in order to move to a touring bike. Kinda settled on Road Glide or EG Classic. I haven't riddent either but will. My concern is for how much visibility might be lost in having either of the aforementioned bikes because of the faring. I am short-5'6" and know that a certain amout of visibility around the bike will be lost. Has anyone had similar concerns and what happened if you purchased one with a faring? Road Kings are not out of the question but I liked the thought of the options I have for playing tunes with the other bikes. I have seen the Road King with the low-mounted speakers and while its a nice job, it's not for me. Thoughts appreciated.
I'm also 5'6" and I ride the Electra Glide with no problems.I have not noticed that the faring causes any problems. The frontend on the EG is a little heaver than on the RG but I got used to it easy enough. If you do go with the EG,You may want to look into lowering it so you can handle it a little better at stops. The RG sits a bit lower than the EG so that is something to concider in you decision.
You'll be just fine on one of the EG's for being able to see around you. Good luck with that and let us know what you end up with. There's a lot of EG riders here.
I have a 05 EG Classic and I am 5' 7" tops (Sometimes I like to think I am 5' 8" but my wife says I am nutz) - It handles like a dream and I haven't lowered it - I looked into it but my boots make up the difference and I am comfortable at lights and intersections - I don't think you lose a but of visibilty due to the fairing so far I have not chopped the stock windshield - I am dying to sit on a zepplin seat to see if I can handle that without lowering the bike - Good luck and let us knwo what you decide
It's a non-issue. When you're riding, you're looking down the road, or through the turn, you're not looking anywhere the fairing would be blocking. The ONLY time it might be an issue is low speed stuff, but if thats the case, you've probably got both feet on the ground and can lean your head to make sure you're not getting ready to run over something, like say, the neighbors Pu...I mean CAT.
