The batteries suck, both of my fobs had issues. Make sure you have your security pin set up.

The posters that suggested setting the security PIN are giving you good advice. My fob for my Fat Boy only lasted 2 years.

so the people with aftermarket radios - how are you dealing with this? just disable the security? or dealing with it when/if it happens?

the radio has nothing to do with it. the security code is displayed on the odometer

+1 on the code. I am never worried about my battery dying because I know my code. When the batter go then I use the code until I can replace the battery.
thank you!!!! i feel like the lone ranger with all these folks and their spare batteries, changing every year, etc..... i change it when it dies. last one lasted over 3 years. and knowing the code can save you if your bike is parked in an area with interference, or, god forbid, you lose your fob, drop it in water, etc.....

Default Battery

I keep a spare battery taped to the inside of one of my saddlebags.
Not needed it yet, but, good feeling.

One of mine is starting to act up now, 08 model. Why are the batteries in both my cars' fobs still good? One is a 2000 model, one is 2003? Does the security system cause a constant draw?

Owners manual says once a year. Both of the fobs lasted right at four years. I carry a set of batteries and still wait for them to die before replacing. I have no problem using the code to get the bike going when the fob dies. My code is all 1's. Easy to remember and quick to input. I someone wants it they can try.

The fob is on 24/7. Many car fobs only activate when a button is pushed. My Toyota is 24/7.

I bought my FLSTFB in September of 09 and still have same fobs. I'm glad this thread was posted, I had to go in the garage and make sure I still remembered how to do the code. Memory refreshed, thanks for the reminder.
