Anyone out there have to change the battery in the fob? How long did you have it before the battery took a dump?

This is my first bike with security and I'm a little paranoid about it. Can I get a second fob? if so, how much do they run?

more importantly, set the security PIN and remember it.

this is a back up should there ever be a problem with the fob

2.) many of us use the $6 radio shack siren, rather than the H-D add on.

search the tips and tricks sticky

my bike came with 2 fobs, one of them is zip tied to my riding boot- so it's always there.

dealers can flash fobs to marry them to your bike.

when touring my Pal and I carry each others spare keys/fobs

My '08 came with two FOB's.

I change the battery every year even though it hasn't died.

They usually run about $25 or so and that will include a flash to the bike.
+1 on the code. I am never worried about my battery dying because I know my code. When the batter go then I use the code until I can replace the battery.

The cost probably varies between dealers, but about 3 years ago they were $75 at one of my local dealers. You should probably shop around and find the dealer who is willing to rip you off less than the others.

I replaced the battery after 2 years and it was still working.
They use a comman battery you can buy a spare and leave in your saddlebag, if you are worried.

FYI: The battery is actually cheaper at your Harley dealership than at Walmart.
A pair of batteries at Wally World was like $6.

Thanks for all the info.
I got the 2011 with just one key and one fob. It was a rental with 5k. I've been trying to get a headset out of them too, but don't think that will happen either.

They did discount the price about 75 cents per mile, so I guess I can spring for a second fob.

Mine went out at about 2 1/2 years. Knowing the code is your friend. The dealer I went to charged me $1.50 to change the battery.
