this is a well kept secret. it is hidden in a place where no man can find it....
Owners manual says once a year. Both of the fobs lasted right at four years. I carry a set of batteries and still wait for them to die before replacing. I have no problem using the code to get the bike going when the fob dies. My code is all 1's. Easy to remember and quick to input. I someone wants it they can try.
The fob is on 24/7. Many car fobs only activate when a button is pushed. My Toyota is 24/7.
If your code is all 1s you mite as well leave your keys in it. Most of the dealers use that code when they set up the new bikes. Next time you are at bike nite anywhere ask a bunch of your friends if they will let you see if you can start their bikes. Out of a dozen I bet you can start 4 or 5 using all 1s.
Cheapest thing that I have ever purchased at the dealership, $2.12 installed. You should have received 2 fobs with the security system. If you bought it new, ask for the other fob from the dealer. If you got it from an individual, you REALLY GOTTA ask for the other one.

that depends on whether or not the bike came from the factory with security. if it was 'dealer installed', then it only comes with one fob. unless your dealer hooked you up with the second fob.
agreed if the bike came from an individual, you need to see if there is another fob. if he still has it, doesn't matter what you change it to, he will be able to start the bike with the fob present, and change your code to 'his' code, and basically have a free bike.
