Due to different metals, good practice to use. I use silver antisieze, but either one is ok. Please use only very little on the middle threads, don't need any in the motor and any on the outside collects dirt like a magnet. The gold is copper based, by the way...
O2 sensors sometimes don't like it, prefer something more dielectric for sensitive apps... As stated, avoid hot heads...

It's in the service manual. Silver permatex works fine.

I'm looking for a small tube like this, so I don't have to mess with the brush

I buy a regular bottle of the stuff and apply with an artists small tipped paint brush. The true artist brush is just stiff enough. Works like a charm to put as much or as little as you want, right where you want with no mess no fuss!

Rule of thumb nickel based (silver) in all metals except stainless. Stainless moly based (black-grey) all ant-seize are not equal look at the temp rating. We use both in the oil refining industry, but no copper based. Not sure why but i assume copper based is inferior.

Copper is not meant to be used with Aluminum. It will work the same as Aluminum based anti seize, but over time the copper corrodes the aluminum thread and could cause you to pull a thread when you are extracting the plug. Copper is however a superior product for steel/steel applications such as exhaust studs. The little tubes are cheap enough, that is wont kill ya to have both in the tool box drawer.

It is a good idea to use on plugs, it's also quoted in the service manual, it's called preventive maintenance and it prevents galling. Should use on O2 sensor threads also. It doesn't matter which one you use. Just use sparingly and keep in mind to stay at low end of the recommended torque range, since the lube property of anti-sieze allows the threads to tighten easier.
