Default SE Compensator, yea or nah?

I'm just beginning the reassembly of my early winter build and before I button up my primary I'm considering a SE compensator.
I have a '07 FLHRS and I'm not even aware if i have a problem or not. I was reading the "Best Mod" thread and a number of you mentioned the compensator. I guess my question is what can I expect if perform this mod? Thanks in advance....Rich

Yeah! Hands down. My shifting is 10x smoother and it really quieted down the clunking. I installed just after my 3 week x country trip this summer at 35k, dont know why I waited so long. My stock one started rattling during the trip thats why I opened it up.

I put one on my 2010 FLTRX when i did my stage 4 kit, great upgrade and well worth the money. i am real picky about noises and i really hate the startup clunk and clatter with the stock compensator assembly. also the combination of the S.E. compensator with Amsoil or Redline primary and trans fluid helped get rid of that hard clunk when you initially shift from neutral to first gear. i highly recomend this for every big twin especially if you are running larger displacement and or high compression.

HAHAHA i thought i recognized that dog. Max is such a good boy gaurding your garage.

Not sure what your build was, but if you jacked up the motor, then I would get the compensator done. Especially since you have it down

I didn't know the '07 had an issue with the stock compensator. I thought it all started with the '09 and later. My '07 Road King Classic certainly didn't have any problems like my current '09 did before installing a new SE compensator. I’m surely glad I changed mine.

I too replaced the stock one, spring of 2011. So far, so good.

Good luck!

At 25K miles my stock Comp was clacking loudly at idle. I installed the SE Comp a few weeks ago & now its quiet. I looked at the stock unit when removed & saw very little wear any where so Im guessing that the spring had weakened considerably. Too bad no one makes a stronger spring for the stock unit so we dont have to buy a new assembly... but not sure that would work but it makes sense.

I did mine on my '09 a few months ago and am pleased with the results. It just feels and sounds more substantial. It was not a huge difference to me, but well worth it. It took me about 3 hours, as in all things I could probably do the next one in one hour.
