I have a 2011 stock Roadking that has 10,500 miles on it. My problem started around 8,500 miles. It sputters or stumbles at low RPM's. It will do it in gear 3, 4, 5 and 6th (haven't noticed it in 1st or 2nd yet). When traveling through towns at 35 mph, it will do it in 3rd or 4th gear. When traveling on the highway at speeds 45-60 mph, it will do it in 5th or 6th gear. It will NOT do it when pulling on it hard, or say at 75 mph when it does have some load on it. It only does it when at low RPM's while just maintaining speed. It feels almost like the ignition drops out then right back on. I have tried various Premium Fuels, added octane booste and changed the plugs. The problem still exists. Any ideas?? Thanks for any and all help!!
Check ohm resistance on spark plug wires. Be sure boots are pushed completely ON the plug. We have ethanol here but if you do not put gas dry alcohol in the tank (may have pick up a small amount of water) How is the idle? When you are cruising at 35 or 45 as you state above what rpm are you turning. I'm from your side of the creek but being a flat lander now my bike fills a little bumpy at certain speeds like say 30 in 4th and when I drop it to 3rd it jumps to 2000rpm and then its like you get tired of the engine drum (not enough wind speeding by.. HA)
on a stock bike dont try a tuner till u figure out what the problem is,could be loose conection at battery or conector pins in the tbw or ecm,or it could be any #of sensors, iac throttle position, crank position, speed sensor, just to name a few. check the easy stuff best u can and keep riding till it starts throwing codes.or take it to the wrench and pay for some troubleshooting, troubleshooting requires a real mech not just a chrome hanger so do some homework on where to get good service.
