Default 2012 removing the stock baffles question

anyone remove the baffles from their stock pipes and wished they haddnt? if you removed the baffles, how hard was it? how long did it take you?

i just got a 2012 Ultra, i BMW went by me today and it was louder than my scoot... i dont have the five bills for slip ons right no, so i was thinking of going with removing the baffles...

I'm not a big fan of cutting out baffles , but saving money is nice.
If you check in the classifieds , there are some great deals on used aftermarket mufflers.
On my last bike , 2006 EG Standard , I picked up a set of V&H Classic straight cut slipons for $70.00 with a big dent on the inside of the right muffler.
These were about $480.00 a pair new and sounded really nice.
I found my current S&S SPO stainless mufflers in there for $170.00 , which go for $599.00 to $700.00 new , with spare quiet baffles that go for $125.00 themselves.
Lots of options , but I would keep the stockers just in case of noise ordinance balony in the future.
A buddy has these , and they sound really good on his bike.

Not bad for new mufflers either.

These are nice. http://www.americancustom.com/

You could just drill a couple 1/2" holes in the ends instead of cutting them out, then use some high temp paint.

Default 2012 removing the stock baffles question

Take an 1 1/2 inch hole saw it will take the baffle out cleanly if they look like the ones in the picture. I have done two sets like this decatted the head pipe as well and they sound really good. Even the guys at the dealership ask are those stock they have a nice deep sound to them. Look in the end of your muffler it should look like the picture. if it does not look like this don't mess with them go to the dealer and pick up a set of take offs that do.

I'm kind of considering these. Very reasonably priced, and they sound pretty good from what I can tell.

Feature I like best is you can have them wide open, in the middle, and if heading into ******** country, make them sound stock. And, since they can modify your pipes, they'll still have all that EPA stamping on them.

I was told by the dealer that you can't remove the baffles from 08-12 stock exhaust. They said it had something to do with the triple welding in them. I brought in one pipe from my old 2011 Road King and let the machine shop here where I work try to get them out. After 2 hours, they have almost the whole thing out but there was a 3 inch section that they couldn't get out. If that helps.

Either buy a used one or use your stock head pipe, remove the cat in thenhead pipe, reinstall the stock mufflers, it should sound a lot better and run cooler...I changed the mufflers on my 2010 and noticed no difference in sound, that cat really makes the difference.....
After removing the cat, if you still want more sound, then go with a set of aftermarket or SE mufflers.

Just my .02 worth.
