This is probably going to be a stupid question, but the UC is new to me, and I'm still learning all the details of the bike.
I have noticed several times that the 6th gear indicator will occasionally go off, and then back on. During a recent road trip, I noticed that this happens mostly when I accelerate on the interstate at speed, or need a little more power to climb up one of those mountains we have around here.
Is this some type of torque lockup feature? Or, do I have an electrical short on the indicator?
When I shift into 6th, if I am accellerating, the indicator will not light up until I back off on the throttle. No issue with it going on & off otherwise.
Can't tell you how many times I tried to shift into 7th....
The 6th gear light is signaled with a speed sensor behind the starter in the middle of the trans. The only time mine went out was when my clutch was slipping and when my neutral safety switch in the clutch lever went out.
I havent ever noticed my light going out while in sixth gear. Sounds like you could have a short or something. I would try calling the local HD service department and ask if they have any info on it, couldn't hurt...
Thanks guys. I picked up this bike at a Harley Finance repo sale. They certified it, and as part of the purchase, the bike came with the same 2 year warranty as if the bike was new.
Now, if I can just get time to take it to a dealer.
