i have my spare key taped inside of one of the lowers, if you zip-tie the key somewhere, make sure you can get it off if you need to ( in the dark, couple of pops etc.).
Keep your bike in gear when you get off of it. Sure, the side stand will allow a small amount of movement forward before it locks, but if you roll the bike a little forward after you hit the kill switch with it in gear, you can take all of that forward roll out of the equation. Remember that your HD will start in gear, unlike a sport bike, so don't forget that when starting back up. Some may disagree with this, but it's always worked for me for years...especially in areas where there is inescapable slope.
The slip-ons didn't hurt a thing by themselves.
As for your headlight yellowing, I bet it's just the inside of the glass lens that is yellowed. You can remove the headlight, remove the bulb, and use a wooden dowel and a cloth with some windex or some other glass cleaner, and you can get all of that stuff off. I had a similar problem with my first HD, a 2000 Road King. I eventually got the headlight glass looking brand new.
