The thought occured to me that I could increase the risers about 4" with 1-2" of pull back, but I'm not sure if I will be happy with the appearance. Especially when I would have to cut holes in the cover and the risers would protrude and be visable.

You will have to notch the right side for the TBW sensor and cut a hole for the wiring to feed through. Use your stock bars for a guide. My friend did them on his lathe in about 20 minutes.

Bro, here's the deal. 14" baby apes are very comfortable. 16" apes are very cool and slightly radical, they are beginning to make that 'biker' statement. 18" are high but may still be too low for that ultimate look. Roadkings can handle the ridiculous because of their size. It's all a matter of personal choice, what you are comfortable with and the look you want to achieve. I went to my local HD dealer and tried different size apes. Settled on 20" for the old school look I wanted. At my shoulders they are perfect. See monsterdave's '03 Roadking.

I think, for now I have a plan.4 1/2" risers with some pullback and harley's street slamer handlebar cover. This I believe will be the cheapest way to play, for now.

Klaybus, the bars I saw at the dealer yesterday look nothing like what you posted.I think they may havee mis-bagged them.

Through researching the thread's I have discovered that the left switch wire's will have to be extended. The throttle by wire will have to be extended.Maybe the brake and clutch cable will need to be lenghtened.Just, maybe,it depend's on your degree of comfort on wether or not it will bind. But,nowhere have I found any mention of the right side switch wire's!
Just in case these are not what I want,'cause it's hard to make a good determination without the bars here to hold and to look at,does anyone have a used set to sell.I'm all ears!By the way,I do have a dollar or two to spend,thanks--Will.
One of my favorite Harleys was my 2005 Roadking Custom which the stock bars were the beach bars from HD. They felt good and the "look" was what belonged on a RK. Many comments from my riding group.

I don't know if the MOCO is still making these, but I put the MOCO's Road King High Bar on my '05. The bar cured my pain from reaching forward for the stock bars, plus they line up with the forks and keep the original look. My biggest problem with the Heritage bars is the appearance, although they might be quite functional.

I went with 14's and couldn't be happier. I was worried I was going to regret it, but they were by far the best thing I've done to the bike. I probably could've gone 16" in retrospect. I knew the heritage bars and heritage style bars were not going to be the final solution for somebody my height (6'4"), and I didn't want to do the work twice. Took a day and was $600 in parts, but it was worth every penny.

Hey, I have a 2010 RK and have been fighting through this same decision about the handlebars. I swapped out the stock seat for a Mustang solo and am very happy with that, but the stock bars are the pits.

Many have commted that the WO 513 baby apes and WO 515 mini apes are a lot like the Heritage bars, but I like them specifically because they are 1 1/4" Chubbies.

They only other bar that has caught my attention is the new fat Heritage bar from Khromewerks, p/n 300330. Any body have any experience with them? Quality? Comfort?

http://www.khromewerks.com/

Thanks,

Mike

I went with WO chubbies 509s, 16 inch. Comfort and easier to manuveur. What a difference they make. No more pain anywhere. You will have to change all the stuff over but it does look and feel alot better. See if a local dealer has any used bikes with the different bars on them. It is your bike and you need to find what is comfortable for you.
