lcd odometer visibility issue
New to this forum. Hoping for some help. Have an 07 road king and I can't really see the odometer/tripmeter/clock during the day. At night, no problem. Can see them during the day if I squint, get close, etc - not really good idea while rolling down the road. Dealership dude said lcd is sun cooked and I needed to replace the whole speedo. HD Parts and Accessories says $500. eeeek. anyone else been through this.
Watch e bay and wait for it. I bought a drivers backrest last week on e bay from a Harley Dealership in FL and paid $65.00 in my door. It was advertized as used. It came in the original box, was the leather model, had the mounting kit in an unopened bag and still had the HD leather guaranty tag attached to it. Was never installed in any bike cause the paint was still on the ends of the lock pins. With the box and the mount bracket in the picture I new it was a deal. The P/N was obsolete so no one would order it. New retail would be $260.00 I was grinnin.
Does anyone know if I need the whole speedo unit or if I can just replace the lcd display? Is the thing soldered in or is it some sort of clip in thing? Is the dealer dude blowin smoke up my *** or does something actually get sun fried on the lcd display? seems odd to lose partial function and seems odd the Motor Co would use something that would get 'sun fried'. I aint gonna spend no $500 but I do still use the odo for my range between fill ups on long distance trips [first bike with a fuel gauge and low fuel warning light - still don't trust them especially in remote western US].
