I am going with the 23" and using the trike trees as have many for an extra 3-4* of rake.
I am also going with a custom fender, but you can use the stock fender with spacers on a 23", just ask Dennis here who did it.
To me, the 21" looks good, way better than stock, but if you are going to try and be different than the majority of 'custom' bikes out there, you cant just run a 21 anymore IMO.
(Sidenote: Yes, the trike trees do leave you with positive trail #'s and they handle just fine, I have ridden one now before deciding on it, and have a friend with it as well as several people on here. My guess is that people who have never ridden a raked bike get on one a freak. Its no big deal.)
We have a 23" on the front of our Streetglide and it rides great. Only mods we did was 23" fender and progressive monotube setup. If you don't mind having the front raised up with a 23" don't hesitate to do it.
Going back a couple years when I decided it was time for new wheels on my 08 serk i had the same decision to make. In the end I went with the 21" wheel. As others have stated, i didnt need a new fender and IMHO the 23" wheel on a bike that is not raked both neck/tress just seems to have an awkward stance.
Many have done this with great success, its just a matter of what your personal taste and wallet allows. Whatever you choose you will be very happy with.
Don't do a 23 unless to stretch and rake the frame. Some of the tree companies will say you don't have to, but they are in it to make money. If you go with a 21 you will wish you did a 23.
I will go with the 21" .Now,,,should y go for a 3degree (7total) tripletree and lower the front?
Does it make a diference with the look of the bike? OR its the same thing to lower it without the triple trees? Im asking this cuz i dont know if 3 degrees will make any dif..
Thank you guys and sorry if my questions are a little silly,,i still have to learn a lot about the "baggers" world
The raked trees are for people going 23" and larger. There is no need to rake the bike with a 21". Were it my bike I would not rake it unless it needed to be raked.
I have 23" with 10deg trees (6 or 7 over depending on who you ask) with 1" lower. After a few thousand miles absolutely no prob, not even a wobble. That said my brother rides a 21 on 05 RK which wobbles above 75 mph on the regular. Chop it up however u want...
