try crc or wd40 first...just take a rag and put some of the spray on it and rub the spots for a few minutes...it will probably come right off...if not you can use some chrome cleaner (simichrome ) and that will get it off....just take your time and put some elbow grease into it...if it is real bad you can use 0000 steel wool with some paste wax on it (trust me it won't scratch the chrome)...
I agree,,get the bike fixed,,if the rubber is melted on,,warm up the pipes,,not to hot,,,use some easy off oven cleaner,,,,don't get it on any painted areas,,
What? You guys need to read what the OP is saying....it is perfectly normal to have small, and I am talking grain of sand small, belt particles fly from the new belt and stick to the hot pipe. If you didn't see any on your muffs when your bike was new then you didn't look very hard or you didn't know what you were looking at.
OP...you can get it off with several different approaches. Since it is usually not too much of a big deal, I simply scrap it off with a fingernail after applying some kind of solvent. I don't get it much any more now that everything is worn and broken-in. It will dissipate over time.

WOW! I've worked in several dealerships and have bought three new belt drive machines, I have never heard of this before. I guess I either need to get my eyes checked or get some knowledge of what to look for. Surprised I missed it, because I sure didn't miss them 38 years of oil specks off them chains.
