Well, unless the higher temps makes your switch fail, so much for your test.
My 09 did not have catalytic converts on it...and the switch failled twice, others have never had a problem.
Going to look forward to see "what this heat shield really does, or what it doesn't do.".

Yes I am basing my test on the assumption that heat is the culprit. But I am not making that assumption blindly. Isn't that exactly what the recall notice states? Here's a quote from that notice... "The rear brake light switch, P/N 72016-06, installed on these vehicles may be exposed to temperatures that can degrade its performance..."

As far as showing lower temperatures at the switch with the heat shield, yes, that is exactly what I'm trying to show. I am not in any way trying to show that the switch will function better - that is your assumption.

So, if heat is the problem, as stated by HD in the recall, then yes, minimizing that heat is an improvement. I am not in any way, shape, or form saying that the heat shield will make the switch function any differently than it does without, or even suggesting that it will eliminate failure. What I am saying is, if heat is the problem, then minimizing that heat improves your odds against failure.

Additionally, there have been a few skeptics posing the question of whether the heat shield will actually trap heat around the switch and make the condition even worse than it already is. That is a legitimate concern. I'm trying to dispel that notion. For my knowledge as much as for anyone else.

I had mine replaced last Friday. The service writer walked the bike before the service was done and noted there was no damage to bike. I asked while they were at it if they could flush the system and I would pay for it. I sat around the shop and BS'd while the work was being performed. When my bike was done I went up to the service counter to pay for the fluid flush and they told me it was on the house sisce they had to bleed the brakes anyway. Not all dealers are bad you just have to find the good ones.

Just based you your own statements.

Called Harley, if you had the switch replaced already they will replace it with the new one, you send in a copy of the invoice for the old one and they will send you a gift card. A gift card? I paid cash for the broken part to be replaced the first time, I want cash back.
