Default brake light switch

So I took my bike in and had the recall done. When I went back to get the bike, it was sitting outside the service area with the lights on. I asked the service lady why my lights were on, and she said " they must have forgot to turn the switch off after the test ride." I waited to see if she was going to go out and check to see if the bike would start, but she just sat there. I went back up front for about 10 min. and when I returned to the service area, the lights were still on. I asked her if they were waiting for the battery to go dead so they could sell me a new one. She said she would let the technician know he left the switch on. I figured OK, lets see what happens. 5 min. later the lights were still on. I went out and turned the switch off, and noticed that the saddle bag was also left unlatched. Would you trust this Dealership to do the work on your bike?

After 63 years, I trust NO repair people. Some things in life you just have to put up with. The people who say they do of course do not check behind them. That's why they trust them. They are however happy people unlike you and I ...HA

I would have reported that to the general manager. There is no excuse for that level of incompetence. I hope they bled your rear brakes properly so you have a good solid pedal. Some are having to return to the dealership because the procedure was done "quickly" and the system not bled at all.

Even with the recall to the dealer telling them to bleed the rear brake and use the Digital Tech, when I got mine home I had to bleed the rear brake myself. That's the reason I do my own work.

I asked to buy the switch at the parts counter and told they cannot sell me one yet...I can buy the old switch but not the new one....what do ya think about that?

Just got my recall letter in the mail 2 days ago. However, it's colder than hell here and I'm not really wanting to ride my bike over there to get the recall done, so I guess it'll have to wait til spring.

I'm a master auto and HD truck tech, but I figured the recall was a simple job and let the Dealer do the work. I'm due to flush the brake fluid anyway, so they will get bled then. Just a shame that Harley has so many problems with their service.

If you see a fire in your kitchen....do you wait for the fire dept or try to put it out yourself?
OK....you made a point of pointing out a mistake....but for Gods sake, turn off your own switch. My dealer checks my bike over with a fine tooth comb before they take it in for service. If there is a nick, dent....part missing...they damn well note it before it goes in the shop.....so you should do the same. Don't ask the "Lady" why your lights are on...grab the first person that works at the dealership and have them turn the lights off.....not go away and shop for ten minutes. Geesh.
My brake switch failed back in May...lost rear brakes due to a melted switch. It was under warranty, so I took it to the dealer for replacement. I may have been able to buy some replacement switch at auto hobby world.....and not said anything. But because we have repairs done at a dealer.....a RECALL was inituated.
If a repair was not up to snuff.....say something, but don't wait fifteen minutes to turn your own ignition switch off...oh, if you ride off with a saddle bag unlatched, it is your fault. Sorry. (I've done that)
