I did mine and love it. I only wished I had bought one off e-bay to have painted so I wouldn't have had the down time. It also would have been easier to just swap them out, because you tend to forget where and how things were after a couple of months at the painters. You can then sell yours on e-bay or here after the swap.

It's not very difficult at all. It can look intimidating inside the fairing, but it's really not. Everything only plugs in one way, so you can't screw it up. Take a few pics for reference, and you'll be good to go.

I would recommend buying one from e-bay or here in the classifieds first. Send that to the painter, and then swap them out all at the same time, to minimze difficulty, and downtime. Then, sell your original. Mine's for sale in classifieds right now. It's always easier to have both of them on the bench, and just transfer everything over, it minimzes confusion. I just did mine yesterday!

The gauges can only fit in one way, and all the pigtails will only go on in one way. Someone earlier suggested covering the pigtails that don't have anything plugged into them, that's not a bad idea if you're the kind of guy who always think you missed something.

When it's all done, you're surprised how ugly that old plain, inner fairing really is.

Make sure you have a small pair of good snap-ring pliers for the clutch pivot pin on the hand controls. The snap-ring is on the bottom of the controls, it's pretty small.

I had the same idea right after returning from sturgis this year. Of course after seeing so many cutom options on different bikes in sturgis I really started thinking. So I returned and ordered the painted inner fairing. paid, ordered now hurry up and wait (7 weeks). I was planning on installing it when it arrived with help from a friend. I didnt want to bike apart waiting to send out the original so I just ordered another one painted from HD. Perfect match.
So in the meantime (7weeks) i started thinking hmmm (bad thing) I sure like the CVO look with the Zumo GPS setup. Guess what? added all that too by the time it came in. So then i figured i would like the navigation installed into the stereo too. So after all that ( and drilling into the new fairing) was thought about.. I let the dealer do it. Dealer has a special of 15% off labor and parts until end of dec. that sold it for me. Plus I got the zumo free lifetime map updates because i bought it before end of year. to much thinking cost more money... Jeff
