Since everyone else does it.....

I can't go into details about the particulars.....Legal stuff's pending. Suffice it to say that I was struck by an accelerating car at an uncontrolled intersection.
I don't remember anything between the initial impact and waking up on my back in the grass. From my injuries, the damage to the bike and my gear, and the accident report, I stayed on the bike and attempted to ride through the collision and come to a controlled stop. The bike lowsided and caught on something, ejecting me through the windshield. My right knee and hip, as well as the right side of my head took the brunt of the initial impact with the ground.
I had on an HCI-100 1/2 helmet that got beat to hell but stayed intact. My glasses look like someone took a belt sander to the right eye. I have substantial bruising and road rash, as well as a bunch of stitches around my right eye.
I had on Danner Ft. Lewis boots which are scuffed up, but survived. My right foot's bruised up, but nothing broke.
I had on Fox Creek chaps over Levi's jeans. The leather not only wore through, the stitching came apart. The fabric of the jeans burned the skin off of my knee, and the knife clipped to my pocket made the bruising on my hip much worse.
I had on Lee Parks Designs DeerTours Pci gloves. The extra leather over the knuckles is worn through a little, but they're otherwise intact. I don't think any glove would have kept the bones from breaking, and my hands are otherwise unmarked.
A leather Harley FXRG jacket with armor. The leather is scuffed up pretty badly, and it wore through in one spot on the right. Other than some bruising, and one spot on my right arm that got cut (must have landed on a rock), my arms and torso made it through just fine.
My opinion? My Chinese-made jacket held together, my American-made chaps fell apart. The chaps may have saved me a little road rash, but were otherwise worthless. Lesson learned, the FXRG's getting replaced, the Fox Creek chaps won't. The Lee Parks gloves are expensive, but worth it. I don't think dedicated riding boots would have made a difference in this accident. The helmet saved my life, or at least prevented me from living the rest of my life drooling and crapping into a diaper. A full-face helmet would have saved me the stitches and the road rash. Lesson learned.
Looking forward to healing up and getting back on two wheels.
Almost had it happen to me on Thanksgiving Day. Car started to pull out in front of me but at the last second they saw me and slammed on the brakes. I could have never stopped if they had continued. You just never know when to expect the unexpected. Glad you are still with us.
